Led by Chief Color Engineer & Scientist Daniel Mulligan, in this 1-day Intensive, Advanced, on-set course you will learn more about how to calibrate an LED Volume using Sony Crystal LED panels and color software and calibration tools from Sony and other vendors.

Understand how to line-up a volume correctly and work with the processors, then learn how to match a camera to the volume and lastly look at the entire color process.

Ideal for Unreal Operators, Colour & Wall Engineers right up to VP Supervisors and Director of Photography.

Here are just a few of the skills you will learn (and need) that you can implement straight away:

Technical Skills

  • Understanding of LED Technology: Knowledge of how LED panels work, including pixel pitch, resolution, brightness, and colour calibration.
  • Camera Operation and Settings: Familiarity with camera sensors, lenses, and settings that interact with LED walls, such as exposure, colour balance, and sensor noise.
  • Colour Science: Deep understanding of colour theory, colour grading, and colour management systems to ensure consistency and accuracy in visual outputs.
  • Video Engineering: Skills in video formats, codecs, and signal flow, as well as an understanding of video playback systems used with LED walls.

Artistic Skills

  • Visual Storytelling: Ability to understand and contribute to the narrative through visual effects, ensuring the virtual content serves the story.
  • Composition and Framing: Skills in composing shots that incorporate both the physical and virtual elements seamlessly.
  • Photorealism: Understanding of how to achieve photorealistic results in the virtual content, matching the real-world footage as closely as possible.

The 1 day intensive, on-set course will take place at Sony DMPC @ Pinewood. Materials and resources will be provided.

Our Color Management for VP 6 week online course is recommended first for those who are new to color for VP.
